FCC Validated Caption Accuracy Metrics

The FCC reviewed and recognized the CAIV methodology and permitted the results as a valid and accurate means of providing a score metric for captioning performance.  CAIV has since become the gold standard for impartial cross platform analysis in the captioning industry, for both AI and human powered captioning solutions. CAIV provides a neutral third-party validation and accuracy measurement tool to allow regulatory bodies and prospective clients to “check the dipstick” of claims made by the captioning providers. 

Proof of Regulatory Compliance

CAIV was first commercially implemented to help our client achieve regulatory approval for their new AI product. CAIV was commercially launched for the first time in partnership with IBM as they prepared to deploy their enterprise level captioning solution into the live television marketplace. IBM was tasked with presenting this groundbreaking Watson based captioning solution utilizing AI to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for authorization to roll it out in U.S. markets and around the world. However, the problem for IBM was the question, “how well does your system perform in the real markets intended for deployment compared to human powered captioning?” IBM conducted a large cross-platform study utilizing CAIV to prove that their new solution was as good as, if not sometimes better than, the current human powered options in the marketplace.
