Accessible Transcription
The accessible media alternative for pre-recorded video.
Accessible transcripts empower users with disabilities by accurately describing visual content within video media. An accessible transcript is like a regular transcript, but contains full descriptions of all on-screen content included in the text and is remediated for complaint screen reader delivery via tagged PDF. The final product is a fully accessible transcript in 508, ADA, and WCAG compliant format that allows non-sighted or low-vision individuals to interpret all visual content within the video. Accessible transcripts provide a cost effective solution to offering access to video content to all users with disabilities.

Audio Description Alternative
Audio description is required for 508, WCAG, and ADA compliance and remains the gold standard in providing comprehensive video accessibility for users with visual impairments. However, traditional audio description is sometimes not possible due to practical or financial constraints of the project. When audio description represents an undue burden to the project, accessible transcripts offer an alternative solution to provide an equivalent experience for users with disabilities.
Word Wizards was the first professional services company to offer accessible transcripts as an alternative means of achieving video accessibility. With over 30 years of experience in the transcription and accessibility industries, our company was uniquely positioned to offer this new service. Part of our mission is to continue to push the envelope of accessibility technology, and help develop innovative new solutions to problems in our market.
Descriptive transcripts were the first of several innovations in accessibility technology driven by our expertise in the field and it was just the beginning. We have taken it one step further, and now offer AI generated synthetic speech audio description. It began with a descriptive transcript, and now we can turn that into a fully compliant video file with audio description at a lower cost than ever before.

508, ADA, and WCAG Compliance
Accessible transcripts offer an alternative way to convey visual information within video content to non-sighted users. They are recognized in WCAG 2 as valid AA success criteria under WCAG for “talking head” videos with a single speaker. They are also recognized as AAA success criteria, offering full accessibility for visual and verbal content in one simple platform. In limited cases, it can satisfy the requirements for audio description under section 508 and ADA compliance regulations. Accessible transcripts offer one of the only recognized alternatives for video compliance, and provide an effect means of communicating video content to users with disabilities.
Compliance and Experience
Our audio description files produced using synthetic voice are written and timed to provide a positive user experience during media playback. The audio descriptions are seamlessly integrated into the existing media. In cases of long descriptive passages, we can provide an audio footnote for extensive descriptions provided at the end of the file with a reference for the user. This allows the presentation of the original media uninterrupted, and full compliance with regulations. Word Wizards always considers the end users when providing accessibility services, and we are dedicated to providing exceptional experiences for the people on the other end of assertive technology.
